PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base film for hydraulic transcription which allows transcriptional printing a delicate printing pattern on the uneven surface of a nonflat shaped mold. SOLUTION: The base film for hydraulic transcription is made of a polyvinyl alcohol (A) having a polymerization degree of 500-3,000 and a saponification degree of 80-99.9 mol%, wherein the film has a water content of 1.5-4.0%, a thickness of 20-50μm, and a width shrinkage of 0.01-1.5% as measured when the film is longitudinally loaded with 8.0 kg/m tension at 50°C for 1 min.
