PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a usage of a catalyst containing a β-silicon carbide support in a selective hydrodesulfurization process, relating to a petroleum refining industry, in more detail to a production of a gasoline base from various units for converting a petroleum fraction, particularly a cracking unit. SOLUTION: The usage of a supporting catalyst is composed of at least one kind of a metal or a metal compound from a group formed from elements of group VIII and/or group VIB in the periodic table, which is deposited on a support consisting of β-silicon carbide substantially, in a process for selectively hydrodesulfurizing essentially a flow of polynuclear aromatic compounds and olefinic hydrocarbon raw materials. This usage is desirable in the process for selectively hydrodesulfurizing the flow of raw materials with an end point of distillation of <260°C having at least 5 wt.% of olefins.
