PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where a cleaning means and an image carrier are unitized and can be replaced, and which effectively restrains faulty cleaning caused by the attachment of a cleaning unit. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus equipped with an image carrier carrying a toner image and a cleaner unit having a cleaning member for removing the toner on the image carrier, the cleaner unit has the cleaning member, a toner storage part for storing the toner removed from the image carrier by the cleaning member, and a contact member coming into contact with the end of the cleaning means in its longitudinal direction. By moving the cleaning member with respect to the image carrier, the cleaning member separates from/contacts with the image carrier. When the cleaning member is moved with respect to the image carrier, the cleaning member and the contact member are integrally moved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
