The mouthpiece (100) for a recorder has a narrow wind channel (2) with a contoured block (1) in a shaped mouthpiece part (9). Air flows through the narrow passage onto the sharp edge of a labium (5) in a cutout (6) in the end of the labium region (4) of the pipe. The pipe has a wide bore (7). A flexible coupling (8) joins the mouthpiece to the body of the musical instrument. It is glued to the mouthpiece and the body and is shaped as a ring with a central air passage and a labium cutout.
