KEY AND KEY HOLDER FOR FASTENER INSTALLATION TOOL

A fastener installation tool (10) is provided that is used to install a threaded nut (44) onto a threaded fastener (24) of the type having a non-circular recess (42) in an end of the fastener that matingly engages with a male member that has a complementary shaped non-circular tip end (40) to the non-circular recess (42). The fastener installation tool (10) generally has a head (14), a gear (56), a socket (20), a key (16), a key holder (18) and a spring (22). The key (16) has a shank (34) with a non-circular external surface that matingly engages with a non-circular aperture (48) in the key holder (18). The mating engagement between the key (16) and the key holder (18) provides the key (16) with resistance to rotation and permits the use of a lower gauge spring (22) that facilitates replacement of the key (16) from the fastener installation tool (10). The key (16), key holder (18) and spring (22) are also available as a kit for retrofitting a fastener installation tool (10).
