PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for generating data representative of an image. SOLUTION: The method for generating data representative of an image comprises the steps of: focusing an image of an object 128 onto a two-dimensional photosensor array 110, wherein an optical element 112 is located between the object 128 and the two-dimensional photo-sensor array 110, using a lens 114; moving the optical element 112 to move the image focused on the two-dimensional photosensor array 110; and generating the data representative of the image using the two-dimensional photosensor array 110 while the optical element 112 is moving.
