PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission capable of enhancing the fuel economy and the power performance. SOLUTION: The first element of a complex type planetary gear G2 for speed change is made transmissible and the speed increasing rotation of a complex type planetary gear G1 for increasing or decreasing the speed is made transmissible through a third clutch C-3 and a fourth clutch C-4, or the speed decreasing rotation of the complex type planetary gear G1 for increasing or decreasing the speed is made transmissible through the third clutch C-3 and a fifth clutch C-5, or made practicable to be fixed through a first brake B-1, while the second element is made practicable to be coupled with the input shaft 13 through a second clutch C-2, or made practicable to be fixed through a second brake B-2, and a third element is coupled always with the output shaft 14, while a fourth element is made transmissible and the speed increasing rotation of the complex type planetary gear G1 for increasing or decreasing the speed is made transmissible through the first clutch C-1 and the fourth clutch C-4, or the speed decreasing rotation of the complex type planetary gear G1 for increasing or decreasing the speed is made transmissible through the first clutch C-1 and the fifth clutch C-5.
