PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an immersion type membrane filter capable of shortening a running/stop cycle of filtration of a treated liquid with a simple method, efficiently filtering the treated liquid and effectively preventing a foul substance from accumulation on the surface of the membrane, and a method for manufacturing clarified water. SOLUTION: The immersion type membrane filter is provided with a filtration membrane immersed and placed in the treated liquid, and filtering the treated liquid; a treatment tank in which the filtration membrane is immersed and placed; detection means detecting a liquid level of the treated liquid in the treatment tank; filtering stop or start means of the treated liquid interlocking with the detection means, and feed stop or start means of the treated liquid to the treatment tank interlocking with the detection means.
