Acid-addition salts of 8-hydroxy-quinoline and derivs fungicides - and 8 hydroxyquinoline

Molecular acid-addition salts of sorbic acid (2,4-hexadienic acid) and 8-hydroxy quinoline (I) and its mono- or dihalide (I) have bacteriostatic- and fungistatic activity esp. against fungi and yeasts in and on natural products such as on fruit-trees, as seeds etc. (I) may be used in the protection of foodstuffs, esp. during storage and in general as fungicide in industries using natural products as raw materials such as the soap-, cosmetics, paper industry etc. Concentrated soln. of (I) in polar solvents are esp. important in the treatment of paper and paper pulp slurries etc. By gradual addition of the acid to molten 8-hydroxy-quinoline.
