The method involves applying a predetermined charge quantity, by means of a supply voltage, to the capacitive control member for controlling a desired deflection. The charge quantity preferably includes several charge packets. The charge quantity transferred to the control member is measured. The measured charge is processed in a direction to correct for deviations of the actual deflection from a target deflection and the charge quantity to be transferred to the control member is thereby regulated. Independent claims also cover an arrangement for operating the control member.
