A papermaking assembly has a shoe drum with a flexible mantle (3) forming a press nip in contact with a second upper drum (7). One or both edges (R) of the lower shoe drum have a peripheral margin at right angles to the nip, bearing a series of orbital rollers (15) following a channel (11). The channel follows a shallow U-shaped profile in the vicinity of the shoe (5). The assembly has two lines of rollers in two parallel channels.
