PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device and method that, if limits are set on a device color space, makes it possible to obtain the outline of a color gamut in another color space quickly and cheaply with high precision. SOLUTION: A controlled amount setting part 4 receives the specification of conditions such as a certain maximum controlled amount and a certain minimum controlled amount in the color space of a device of concern, and generates a group of outline points which constitutes the outline of a color gamut in the color space of the device of concern that is limited by the conditions. Using a model of the device of concern in, e.g., forward direction, a color transforming part 2 transforms the group of outline points in the color space of the device of concern into a group of outline points for another color space. This makes it possible to calculate the outline of the color gamut for the device of concern in the another color space. Thus, because the model in forward direction is employed and no search-style repeating process is carried out, information on the outline of the color gamut can be obtained quickly and cheaply with high precision.
