PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanning device, which can obtain a proper image having no deviation of a beam pitch due to temperature, vibration, or the like, by quickly and precisely measuring the beam pitch with respect to a sub scanning direction to control the pitch. SOLUTION: In the optical scanning device having a light source device 18 for generating one or more optical beams, a deflector 14 for performing the deflection and the scanning of the optical beam from the light source device, and a scanning optical system 15 for the scanning of the optical beam at an approximately constant speed, the optical scanning device is equipped with: an optical beam position detection means 19, in which a plurality of sensors are arranged, in which at least two mutually facing peripheral sides are parallel and forming straight lines, and in which at least one side of the facing peripheral sides of respective sensors is disposed at an angle not parallel to the main scanning direction; detection means 21 and 22 for detecting the scanning position (or beam interval) with respect to the sub-scanning direction, on the basis of a beam position detection signal from the optical beam position detection means; and control means 23 and 29 for controlling the scanning position to be returned to a prescribed scanning position, when the scanning position detected by the detection means is shifted from the prescribed position.
