摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume-measuring method and a volume-measuring instrument, capable of measuring the longitudinal length, lateral length, height and volume of an object, in a relatively short time using a simple processing. SOLUTION: In this volume-measuring method for calculating the volume of the object having a substantially rectangular parallelopiped shape, a laser beam emitting means and an imaging means are built in a body part. An emitted laser beam is a sector-shaped laser beam, the body part is rotatable at an optional angle horizontal-directionally and vertical-directionally, the body part is provided with a horizontal direction detecting means and a vertical direction detecting means. When the body part is horizontal, the imaging direction of the imaging means is a third prescribed angle, and has a fourth prescribed angle in a vertical-directional imaging range. The imaging means prepares image information containing an optional side crossed with a linear illuminated part by the laser beam or the optional angle, a control means finds the dimensions of prescribed sides in the upper face of the object, based on the detection signal from each of the detecting means, the image information and the first prescribed distance, and calculates the volume of the object based on the found dimension of the each side.
