A seat belt (1) not in use is automatically wound up on a drum located at the inner surface of the car body. The tongue-shaped insertion element (4) provided with a transversal slot (5) slips along the moving belt (1) until it touches a stop. The new design of a stop element (3) is made of a wire guided around the belt (1), its rounded outer ends touching at the rear. The wire (3) is tightly clamped around the belt (1) and cannot be incidentally moved.
