<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a highly safe edible composition with no risk of infection with pathogens and pathogenic factor transmission while even having the excellent properties inherent in collagen. <P>SOLUTION: The edible composition comprises a synthetic polypeptide having at least an amino acid sequence of the formula:Pro-Y-Gly (wherein, Y is Pro or Hyp) and forming a collagen-like structure. The polypeptide may exhibit positive Cotton effect at wavelengths of 220-230 nm and negative Cotton effect at wavelengths of 195-205 nm in its circular dichroic spectrum. Further, at least part of the polypeptide may form a triple helical structure. This edible composition may be powdery, solid, semi-solid or liquid.
