<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an photoelectric conversion element superior in a photoelectric conversion characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion material uses compounds expressed as in the general formula (1); where, R<SB>1</SB>denotes an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, a heterocycle; R<SB>2</SB>denotes a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, a heterocycle, halogen atom; R<SB>3</SB>denotes a connecting group that connects a benzene ring with an A1 ring. R<SB>4</SB>denotes a substituent having a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkyl thio group, a substituted amino group, a halogen atom, an aryl group, a heterocycle, an acid group. X<SB>1</SB>, X<SB>2</SB>denote an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a nitrogen atom, dicyanomethylene group, a bis(alkoxycarbonyl)methylene group, and the like.
