<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for verifying XML message or other messages of content which is structured hierarchically. <P>SOLUTION: A verification engine walks-through for a tree expressed by a message. The verification engine inspects a verification table and specifies a proxy to be called, if each node in the tree is found. The verification engine calls the specified proxy for the node, and recursively calls itself for a sub-tree group of a current node. The verification engine inspects the verification table again, after processing the sub-tree group, specifies a post handler for the current node, and calls the post handler. A flag "exclusive" is set at an entry in the verification table, and scanning of the sub-tree group of the node, corresponding to the entry, can be prevented.
