<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly charge a battery in a short time, without degrading the battery performance. <P>SOLUTION: This battery charging method includes a temperature holding and charging process which detects the battery temperature, controls an average charging current so that the battery temperature reaches a preset holding temperature and charges the battery, while the battery temperature is being maintained at the preset holding temperature. This battery charging method also includes a temperature rise charging process which charges the battery at a large current for raising the battery charger and raises the battery temperature to the preset holding temperature.
