PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical device for melting and casting a metal, in which continuous casting can be naturally and smoothly executed by successively drawing molten metal into a mold and solidifying the molten metal. SOLUTION: The molten metal, which is levitation-melted in a levitation melting furnace, is successively drawn into the mold connected to the lower part of the furnace and solidified in the device for melting and casting the metal. The device is constituted as follows. A metal base material is supported in an ascending/descending manner. The upper part of the mold is formed by a plurality of water-cooling copper segments which are mutually insulated and cylindrically erected. A coil is arranged to the outer periphery of the water-cooling copper segments. The supported metal base material is successively descended. The metal base material is successively levitation-melted while charging it into the levitation melting furnace. The molten metal is successively drawn into the mold and solidified. When the casting is executed, a high-frequency current is supplied to the coil and the induction heating is executed. The molten metal is separated from the inner wall face of the mold at its upper part by the Lorentz repulsive force occurring at the time of the induction heating. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
