METHOD FOR OPERATING A LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM IN MOTOR VEHICLES, AND CORRESPONDING LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM

The aim of the invention is to provide a method for operating a level control system in motor vehicles, said system improving the reliability of, inter alia, the vehicle level control and/or the adjustment of the shock absorber, especially during off-road journeys. To this end, the inventive method essentially comprises the following steps: the current vehicle level is detected; the current traffic route is detected; the current shock absorbing parameters of the spring-and-shock absorber units (2) are detected; the detected current level of the vehicle, the detected current traffic route and the detected shock absorbing parameters are compared with the stored vehicle level and the stored traffic route and shock absorbing parameters; if at least one deviation or a trend in deviations is observed, travel over an off-road terrain or an on-road terrain is identified; and defined control signals are generated and forwarded to the actuators of the, or selected, spring-and-shock absorber units (2) in order to raise or reduce the level and/or to adapt the shock absorbing action of the spring-and-shock absorbing units (2) of the motor vehicle.
