Organic diacyl peroxides containing one or more sulphonyl groups provided which do not explode upon moderate heating, have decreased shock-sensitivity and increase storage stability, and which function as very reactive polymerization initiators or catalysts. The improved diacyl peroxides are produced by reacting the corresponding carboxylic acid halide with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid acceptor at a temperature of from -70 DEG C. to 25 DEG C. and then isolating the peroxide thus formed. |
