PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic system which hardly gives rise to staining, the reduction in image density and the deterioration in sharpness even in repetitive use and provides high sharpness and excellent durability. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, a laser beam light of a beam diameter≤35μm is used for an optical writing means and the photoreceptor is provided with at least a charge generating layer containing a charge generating material, a charge transfer layer containing a charge transfer material, and a surface layer containing at least one kind selected from a compound expressed by general formula (I) on a conductive support. The film thickness adding the film thicknesses of the charge transfer layer and the surface layer is≤20μm. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>each represents an alkyl group or aromatic group and may be the same or different from each other provided that either one of is an aromatic group.
