PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element with anti-leak property, high luminescence brightness and a positive electrode surface excellent in cleanliness, and provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The organic EL element 10 has a structure of a base plate 11 on which an ITO electrode 12, an island film 13, a hole injection layer 14, a hole transport layer 15, a light-emitting layer 16, an electron transport layer 18, and a negative electrode 19 deposited in turns. The surface of the ITO electrode 12 is cleaned by grinding.
