PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque limiter capable of reducing its width in comparison with a conventional one. SOLUTION: An outer ring 2 composed of a plate member, is rotatably supported to an inner ring 1 formed by stacking two sheets of plate members 1a, 1b and forming an inner ring raceway surface 1c by forming a curved or bent part on its outer edge or a radial intermediate part. The outer ring 2 is provided with recesses 2a or windows to accommodate balls 6, and a projecting part 21 and recessed parts 22, 23 are formed on faces opposite to the inner ring raceway surface 1c, of the recessed parts 2a or the windows. A dimension between the projecting part 21 and the inner ring raceway surface 1c is determined not to allow the ball 6 to pass therethrough so far as the inner ring raceway surface 1c is elastically deformed, and the balls 6 are moved to the recessed parts 23 over the projecting part 21 in accordance with the increase of the load at a driven-side to achieve a state that the torque is not transmitted. As a width dimension as the torque limiter is the total of a diameter of the ball 6 and a thickness of two sheet of plate members 1a, 1b, the torque limiter can be thinned.
