PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut a carbon nanotube adhering to the tip of a probe of a scanning type probe microscope or a handling device to an arbitrary length at an arbitrary position. SOLUTION: A discharge sharp rod of an external power supply device is disposed close to the probe tip part of the scanning type probe microscope or the handling device, whereby the carbon nanotube is cut by discharge action.
