An emergency cooling system for a photovoltaic-based system for generating electrical power from solar radiation is disclosed. The emergency cooling system includes a storage tank (5) for storing cooling fluid for the cooling system, a means for establishing and maintaining a base pressure in the cooling system, and a vent for the cooling system. In use the vent operates to vent the cooling system in response to an emergency situation, such as failure of a cooling system pump. When this occurs, the base pressure maintains flow of cooling fluid through the photovoltaic cell receiver and cools the receiver and discharges heated cooling fluid via the vent. |
