Particulate filter

A particulates removal filter (1) comprises a housing (2) containing a gas filter element (3) e.g. of porous silicon carbide ceramic. The element is a two-sided, extended surface, formed as a monolithic arrangement of parallel bores, alternately closed at their upstream and downstream ends. The downstream surface of the element is coated with a regenerable NOx retention catalyst (10). Independent claims are included for vehicle exhaust systems equipped with the filter, particularly diesel vehicles. The upstream surface may be impregnated with an oxidation catalyst.
