An apparatus for destroying explosive hand mines comprises a gas generator 1 supported for travel on land and connected by an elongated barrel 2 to a controlled nozzle assembly 3, gas being discharged in a plurality of jets in variable directions from the nozzle assembly to produce forces for steering and propelling the apparatus and for exploding land mines below the nozzle assembly. The gas generator 1 burns solid rocket propellant which is recharged through a pivoted cover 21 and the apparatus is supported by a skid P with a towing hook 22 and through four springs 8, 9 from two endless track units 4 pivotally connected to the gas generator through links 5 (Fig. 8, not shown). The nozzle assembly includes opposed pairs of vertical and horizontal jets 16, 17 for controlling the height of the nozzle assembly and for steering the apparatus and four conical jet assemblies 11, 12 arranged in two superposed coaxial pairs. The upper and lower pairs are rotatable in opposite senses from a position with the jets 13 and 14 directed vertically upwards and downwards, respectively to positions in which the jets are all directed rearwardly for forward travel or forwardly for rearward travel. The apparatus is controlled either directly or remotely through trailing wires. |
