PURPOSE: Signals and molecular species involved in senescence are provided, thereby easily detecting a senescent cell, identifying a substance affecting the cell senescence, and regulating the cell senescence. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting a senescent cell comprises measuring a relative alteration to young cell in a signal or molecular species involved in signal transduction, wherein the alteration in the signal or molecular species is one or more selected from (a) reduction in Ca2+ oscillation, (b) reduction in expression of F-actin, (c) reduction in activity of phospholipase C, (d) reduction in activity of phospholipase D, (e) reduction in expression or phosphorylation of platelet-derived growth factor receptor, (f) reduction in phosphorylation of phospholipase C-γ1, (g) reduction in expression of phospholipase D1, (h) reduction in expression of EDG-2, (i) reduction in expression of EDG-7, (j) reduction in expression of Gil, (k) reduction in expression of Gi2, (1) reduction in expression of Gi3, (m) increase in activity or expression of adenylyl cyclase, (n) reduction in activity or expression of phophodiesterase, (o) increase in activity of protein kinase C, (p) increase in activity or expression of protein kinase A, (q) increase in phosphorylation of CREB, and (r) increase in cAMP content; the signals or molecular species of (a) to (g) are involved in the signal transduction triggered by a platelet-derived growth factor; and the signals or molecular species of (h) to (r) are involved in the signal transduction triggered by lysophosphatidic acid.
