PURPOSE: A method for controlling distance between vehicles is provided to improve control performance, to increase riding comfort and convenience for drivers by preventing frequent acceleration and deceleration, and to restrict accidents by precisely controlling a brake by estimating exactly brake gain. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling distance between vehicles is composed of steps for monitoring states of a brake at real time by analyzing a signal input through a brake torque sensor(S310); detecting the speed of vehicle wheels(S312); detecting line pressure of the brake(S314); estimating and observing brake gain at real time with a brake gain estimator by using the wheel speed and the line pressure of the brake(S318); and calculating target brake line pressure by the observed brake gain and executing operations for controlling the distance between the vehicles(S320).
