PURPOSE: A gamma-Butyrolactone autoregulator receptor gene(EsgR) isolated from Saccharopolyspora erythraea and a protein expressed therefrom are provided, which gene and protein are useful for studies on induction of erythromycin production, induction of second metabolism production, and spore formation using Saccharopolyspora sp. CONSTITUTION: The gamma-Butyrolactone autoregulator receptor gene(EsgR) isolated from Saccharopolyspora erythraea IFO 13426 has the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1. The protein encoded by the gamma-Butyrolactone autoregulator receptor gene(EsgR) isolated from Saccharopolyspora erythraea IFO 13426 of SEQ ID NO:1 has the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2.
