PURPOSE: A write-once information storage medium, a method for updating data recording state information stored in the write-once information storage medium, and a drive thereof are provided to reduce the number of recording units used for recording data recording state information, thereby more effectively using a data recording area. CONSTITUTION: Data is recorded at one of plural recording layers(LO). File system information updated when the data is recorded is recorded at the recording layer(LO). Data recording state information related to the recording layer(LO) updated according to the file system information is recorded. When recording the updated file system information, the updated file system information is recorded in a next position of the recorded data.
