PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for cooling a projection device are provided to improve cooling efficiency by reducing the ambient temperature around the projection device. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for cooling a projection device includes a metal thin plate(302) for reflecting heat generated from a lamp(301). An air gap(305) is formed at both sides of the metal thin plate(302) in order to insulate and cool heat. A heat sink(308) is provided to conduct heat, which is transferred to an exterior case(304) while being radiated from the lamp(301). A fan(307) cools the heat sink(308). The metal thin plate(302) includes a protrusion(303) connected to the exterior case(304). The heat sink(308) is positioned between the fan(307) and the lamp(301). The heat sink(308) is attached to each of the upper case and lower case.
