[Also in Division G3] Means for controlling the pressure in an hydraulic press comprises a ray source 12, a ray-sensitive device 13, and a screen 11 movable between the ray source 12 and device 13 under the influence of one of the main movable parts of the press. As shown, the screen 11 is secured to a lower piston 4 of the press, this piston 4 moving in a cylinder 2, the outflow from which is governed by a valve 18. Valve 18 is controlled by an auxiliary hydraulic system 17 including a valve 16 having a solenoid 15 connected through an amplifier 14 to the device 13. As seen in Fig. 2, the device 13 may comprise a large number of separate photo-cell units (21) and the screen 11 may be made of paper, the edge (22) of which is shaped to produce the desired changes in pressure. The press also includes an upper piston 3, a liquid-filled pressure chamber 5 and a rubber diaphragm 6 for shaping a workpiece 7 over a stationary shaping member 8. |
