POWER ACTUATOR FOR AUTOMOTIVE CLOSURE LATCH

A power actuator for automotive door latches. The actuator includes an electric motor mounted in a housing. A worm is operatively coupled to the motor for driving rotation of the worm about an axis in a fir st rotational direction. A worm gear, which meshes with the worm, is mounted in the housing for rotation about an axis substantially orthogonal to the worm axis. A camshaft is mounted on the worm gear and has a rotation axis coincident with the gear axis. An output arm is affixed to the distal end of the camshaft for engaging the lever of a latch. The power actuator uses a reduced number of components.
