1,185,512. Conveying bag blanks through bottoming machines. WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER. 21 March, 1967 [2 April, 1966], No. 13272/67. Heading B5D. A bag tube with its bottom opened to diamond form is conveyed, with the bottom leading, by leading and trailing grippers 11, 12 (Fig. 1) which grip the creases for the leading and trailing bottom flaps when these are pressed into the grippers by knives 7, 8. The grippers then carry the tubes under bottom-closing tools 88, 93. As illustrated the rear gripper 12 acts on its flap through both thicknesses of the bag wall. Closure of the trailing flap is completed by a pair of horizontal arms 88 (Fig. 11b) and this flap is held down by a rotating member 93 (Fig. 1) while belts 96 hold down the leading flaps. The bag tubes are conveyed partly by belts 1, 1<SP>1</SP> set into slots in the grippers 11, 12. To permit adjustment for different widths of bag the leading and trailing grippers 11, 12 are carried by different chains whose phasing may be altered. |
