PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for driving a plasma display panel are provided to prevent the damage of the data driver due to the excessive current since the inverse current is reduced from the scan electrodes to the address electrodes. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a plasma display panel includes the steps of: sequentially applying the scan pulses lowing from the first voltage to a plurality of first electrodes and selecting the cell by simultaneously applying the data pulses to a plurality of the second electrodes; reducing the first voltage on the scan electrodes to the second voltage after the scan pulse is applied to the first electrode of the final line; and differently controlling the timing of lowering from the first voltage to the second voltage at least one selected among the scan electrodes.
