PURPOSE: A method for recording and reproducing a program in a multiple unit PVR(Personal Video Recorder) IRD(Integrated Receiver Decoder) system is provided to overcome the limitation of a memory capacity through a server IRD and client IRDs connected with each other by wireless. CONSTITUTION: A client IRD 1(2) transmits a message for confirming the size of a present use or usable memory space to a client IRD 2(3) through a server IRD(1). The client IRD 2 transmits a message including the present state information to the client IRD 1. The client IRD 1 discriminates whether a recording is possible. When the recording is impossible, the client IRD 1 searches another IRD. When the recording is possible, the client IRD 1 transmits a recording request message including the channel and program information for recording to the client IRD 2. The client IRD 2 receives the recording request message and transmits recording start and finish messages to the client IRD 1.
