PATCH ANTENNA CAPABLE OF SWITCHING BETWEEN VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL OR LEFT AND RIGHT CIRCULAR POLARIZATIONS

PURPOSE: A patch antenna is provided to switch between vertical and horizontal circular polarizations or between left and right circular polarizations by alternating a bias potential between positive and negative values. CONSTITUTION: A patch antenna(1) includes a power line(2), a ground plate(4), and a patch(6) which are sequentially laminated in this order. Dielectric members(8,10) are inserted between adjacent two layers. The ground plate includes two slots(12,14) which are substantially normal to each other. The power line crosses with each of the slots and includes two branch portions(2a,2b). Each end portion of the branch portions is connected to diodes(16,18). Each of the diodes is connected to the branch portions in a direction opposite to each other. The other ends of the diodes are grounded.
