PURPOSE: An open cable PVR(Personal Video Recorder) and a method for driving the same are provided to observe an open cable standard as a digital cable standard in KOREA and USA and to apply smoothly a watch and record function as an important function in the PVR. CONSTITUTION: A cable input is divided into two cable inputs and then inputted to a Tuner0(201) and a Tuner1(202). A viewing channel is tuned by the Tuner0 and a recording channel is tuned by the Tuner1. When the channels are tuned by Tuner0 and Tuner1, the tuned signals are outputted as a TS type through each QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) demodulator. When two channel are ciphered pay channels, the viewing channel is transmitted to a POD(Point of Deployment) module(205) through a Triple demultiplexer(203) and a POD I/F(InterFace) chip(204). The transmitted stream is deciphered at the POD module and outputted to an MPEG-2 and AC-3 decoder(206) through the POD I/F chip. The deciphered clear stream is decoded at the MPEG-2 and AC-3 decoder and outputted to an AV output, thereby viewing the broadcasting by the user.
