PURPOSE: A method for inputting characters of a mobile terminal is provided to allow a user to quickly input a word by inputting only the first and the last characters without having to input the entire characters of the word. CONSTITUTION: When a user inputs the first and last characters of a word desired to be inputted(S100) and presses a function key(S200), words whose first and last characters are the same as those of the inputted word are extracted from a word storage unit(S300). If there are not many number of extracted words, there is no need to input a character between the first and the last character(S400) and the user searches a desired word among the extracted words and selects it(S500). As the user selects the desired word, the displayed incomplete word is converted into a word selected from an extracted word region to thereby make a complete word(S600).
