PURPOSE: A 4-color cathode ray tube projection system and method are provided to increase the range of color information of one pixel using a 4-color projection system including an additional white cathode ray tube, to improve luminance and contrast. CONSTITUTION: A projection system includes a digital-analog converter(220) for receiving a digital video signal from an image source and converting the digital video signal into an analog video signal, and at least one cathode ray tube(211,212,213,214) for receiving the analog video signal and outputting a light beam having intensity corresponding to the level of the analog video signal. The projection system further includes a screen(200) on which the light beam is concentrated to form one pixel, and a convergence module(240) for receiving a video synchronization signal and a convergence control signal from the image source and providing the signals to the cathode ray tube such that the light beam is concentrated. The digital video signal includes a white video signal. The cathode ray tube includes a white cathode ray tube that receives the white video signal and outputs a white beam having intensity corresponding to the level of the white video signal.
