PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING AND TREATING DEMENTIA COMPRISING THE EXTRACT OF CROWN DAISY(CHRYSANTHEMUM CORONARIUM L.) HAVING IMPROVED INHIBITING ACTIVITY AT BETA-SECRETASE

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition comprising the extract of crown daisy(Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) is provided, which crown daisy(Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) extract has improved inhibiting activity at beta-secretase which participates in formation of beta-amyloid in order to inhibit dementia caused by accumulation of the beta-amyloid, so that the pharmaceutical composition is useful for preventing and treating dementia. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating dementia comprises 3-O-£alpha-D-galactopyranosyl(1→6)- beta-D-galactopyranosyl|-glyceride represented by formula (1), wherein R1 and R2 are independently C1 to C25 optionally saturated fatty acid, wherein the dementia is Alzheimer's disease; the 3-O-£alpha-D-galactopyranosyl(1→6)- beta-D-galactopyranosyl|-glyceride is prepared by extracting a ground portion of Chrysanthemum coronarium L. with lower alcohol, fractionating the alcohol extract with ethylacetate, water and butanol, and subjecting the active fraction to silica gel column chromatography.
