PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating garbage, which are able to efficiently decompose garbage without storing refractory components by separately treating the garbage in a plurality of treating parts even through a semi-batch process. CONSTITUTION: Garbage that is injected to a pre-treating part (71) through an inlet is mixed by a mixing blade (75). When the garbage is mixed by the mixing blade, a screw (73a) is stopped or rotated to a direction opposite to a transferring direction of the garbage so that the garbage is stayed at the pre-treating part. When the predetermined amount of the garbage is stored at the pre-treating part, the rotation of the screw is reversed so that the garbage is transferred from the pre-treating part to a treating part (72).
