PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a low profile transformer and a low profile transformer are provided to allow for ease of assembly by combining molded cores into a core structure. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing a low profile transformer comprises a step of arranging a lower core(8) constituted by a frame-shaped molded core having an opening formed at a center thereof, beneath a coil bobbin(1) including flanges(4) having terminal boards(6) with pin terminals(5) implanted into both ends of a hollow coil winding portion(3); a step of securing an intermediate leg(7) of the molded core into the coil winding portion; and a step of assembling an upper core(9) constituted by a frame-shaped molded core having an opening formed at a center thereof, to the center of a predetermined position on each end(7a) of the intermediate leg protruded from the coil winding portion.
