摘要 PURPOSE: A magnetic disk device having a function of using a TPR(Thermal Protrusion) when managing a flying height, and a checking device having the function thereof are provided to measure a change of a TPR caused by a recording operation, and to maintain the measured results in a memory or on a magnetic disk, then to manage a flying height by using data, thereby more reliably managing the flying height. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic disk drive decides whether a TPR measurement start condition is satisfied(S101). If so, the drive starts measuring a TPR(S102). The drive decides whether a minimum flying height exceeds a threshold value(S103). If so, the drive generates an alarm by deciding that the exceeding flying height is dangerous(S104). The drive generates an alarm for urging a user to be cautious(S105).
