The invention relates to a single-phase universal motor (11), such as one that has been proven, in particular, as an agile washing machine drive, in which it is possible to achieve a significant reduction in hysteresis losses, rotational speed dependency of the efficiency and in the motor current (Im(t)) that fluctuates with twice the mains frequency together with the losses and noise emissions resulting therefrom that are particularly due to fluctuations in rotational speed and to electromagnetically excited oscillations of the stator core assembly. To this end, the motor (11) is no longer operated via the phase-angle control of a bi-directional triode thyristor, which can be pulse-triggered and which is self-quenching with current zero, said phase-angle control being synchronized with the mains frequency, and is no longer operated via the pulse-duty factor of a high-frequency freely oscillating chopper, but is operated via a power circuit breaker (18), which can be electronically switched on and off and which, under mains reference, is switched through over variable time intervals (t1-t0) from before the end of a mains half period to after the start of the subsequent mains half period (p), whereby the motor current (Im) is sustained in an almost unchanged manner during the switching gaps via a recovery diode (20).
|
