PURPOSE: A high pressure discharge lamp and a lamp base are provided to allow for ease of mounting of a lamp base or a high pressure discharge lamp by permitting a pre-fabricated plug socket to be mounted to a mount plate together with other electrical modules even prior to mounting of the lamp base. CONSTITUTION: A lamp base(2) for a high pressure discharge lamp includes a mounting plate for electrical modules and a plug socket(40) for connecting a voltage source to the lamp base. The plug socket is arranged in the form of a surface-mounted module on the mounting plate. The plug socket includes a plastic housing and first pins engaged with matching recesses in the mounting plate. The plastic housing has second pins engaged with matching recesses in the lamp base.
