LCD WITH DATA LINES OF WHICH NUMBER IS REDUCED BY 1/3 AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An LCD and a method for driving the same are provided to reduce power consumption by reducing the number of data lines by 1/3 and using gate lines in pair commonly, thereby reducing the number of data driving ICs for driving the data lines and saving the fabrication cost thereof. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes pixels(144) of red, green and blue disposed perpendicularly to data lines(134). A plurality of gate lines groups are formed of two horizontal gate lines(140) and intersect the data lines. A data driver drives the data lines. A gate driver drives the gate line groups. A timing controller controls the data and gate drivers and has at least one line memory for temporarily storing data supplied to the data driver. Preferably the timing controller has three line memories for the red, green and blue data.
